History

The municipal library of Sant Josep de sa Talaia is a public library owned by the municipality that depends on the Sant Josep de sa Talaia Town Hall. It was created at the request of a popular initiative that began in 1983, and from which the municipal government began to work. A space was equipped and enabled in the same town hall building (facilities that it still occupies today) and a librarian position was created.

The library opened its doors on September 22, 1987. The Town Hall assigned it an initial budget allocation for acquisitions of 500,000 pesetas which, along with a foundational lot from the National Reading Center, allowed it to open with a bibliographic collection of 2,500 volumes. Since then, the library has increased not only its collection but also its staff, public service hours, and services to adapt them to current needs and fulfill the mission that is inherent to it as a public library.
