History
The Vicent Serra Orvay Library is a public library owned by the municipality that depends on the Town Hall of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. It was created in 1998, and its first location was the Can Jurat building. In February 2011, the library opened a new location in a newly constructed building in the center of Sant Jordi, which it shares with the municipal offices of Sant Jordi, a multipurpose event hall, and classrooms for various courses and activities organized by the Town Hall of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. In fact, classroom 2 is reserved on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays as a study room for library users over 14 years old.
Although the library is not very large, it has gained square meters, lighting, and an overall improvement in various aspects that make it a more attractive space.
Since 2009, the library has extended its hours and has established itself as a public service.
The library was named Vicent Serra Orvay in 2011, in tribute to the priest, astronomer, and erudite from Ibiza born in Sant Jordi in 1869.
